Pod2g gave some good news on his blog:

“ Today I succeed in jailbreaking my iPod 3G.

The exploit is user-land, rely on a user ROP payload and a kernel write anywhere exploit.

I can’t give much details right now, but here are the next steps :

- upgrade the iPod 3G to iOS 5.0.1

- do the same on iPhone 4 / iOS 5.0.1

- then iPad 1 & iPod 4G

At every step, the exploit code needs certainly to be reworked, but I really don’t know right now.

Next, I’ll return to the research for iPad 2 and iPhone 4S. I don’t know if I gonna release first for other devices or not. I’ve to think about it. Feel free to give your opinion.

I’ll update the blog when I have news.

iOS5 codediggers have discovered what they think is the new codename for the iPad 3: “J2”. The J2 has a Retina display with a 2048x1536px screen and is being built by Samsung, Sharp and LG. Production has started. So this could mean a launch 1st quarter 2012

Shortcuts of the non jailbroken kind

For jailbreakers shortcuts are nothing new. Besides sBsettings there are more tweaks and apps to create shortcuts.

Now there is a way to create shortcuts with iConProject. Found in the App Store. You can create custom icons with specific URL links. Of course it’s nothing like the real thing. But hey it passes the time while waiting for a jailbreak on the 4s.

UI designer Jeff Broderick has created a set of beautiful icons and shortcuts. If you go over here brdrck.me with mobile safari you can install these shortcuts.

What is the current jailbreak status ?

A short update:

At the moment the 5.01 is breakable with Redsn0w. It’s a tethered one. The proces is the same as on iOS 5. Here’s a short guide. Currently there are no rumours of when the untethered will be released or when the iPhone 4s and iPad 2 on iOS 5 will be jailbroken.

So for all you iphone 4s and ipad 2 owners. Hang in there.

So I booted my 4s late last night for the first time. Played a bit with it today. Is it a nerds dream ? Don’t know yet. First impressions is that it’s okay. Playing with Siri is fun. But should you upgrade from the 4 ? I can’t answer this question at the moment. Only thing I can say at this point in time is that if you have a bundle of money lying around you should go for it. Otherwise big question mark.

Ladies and gentlemen I got him

So today on 11-11-11 my 4s arrived. It was just a few hours ago. I had me a unboxing party. Still haven’t turned it on though. Why ? It can’t be jailbroken. So maybe it will boot tomorrow when I can accept this. For now it’s back to the 4.
